Cut resistant fabrics have been developed following thousands of cut related injuries at the workplace within numerous of different sectors around the world.

After cut resistant gloves have been available for a number of years now, companies such as UK based PPSS decided to look into the development of a high performance cut resistant fabric, which could be used in order to design durable cut resistant sweatshirts, jackets, sleeves, and even boiler suits (coveralls) in order to protect homeland security professionals, such as prison, police, immigration and security officers, as well as industry professionals working within metal pressing, glass handling and similar sectors.

Following extensive research and testing, Cut-Tex® PRO, a tested and certified ISO 13997:1999 blade cut resistance level 5 (the highest possible) and ASTM F-1790 blade cut resistance level 4 fabric was born.

Providing our workforce with high quality and durable protective clothing which is incorporating durable cut resistant fabric can without question effectively protect their upper bodies from potentially horrendous cut injuries.

It would of course be a relatively simple procedure to protect against cuts and abrasions if it were not for the issue of mobility, flexibility and comfort. A solid steel sweatshirt for example would provide great protection but would keep the worker from being productive.

We wanted, not only create a material which protects the worker but also to allow them to continue to do the work they are doing with a minimum of discomfort and mobility restriction.

For many years leather was the best protection against cut related injuries, but the best protection called for thicker leather which left the users with a minimum of dexterity and virtually no sensitivity. Other fabrics and more technical fibres, developed over the years have increased dexterity and allowed for more flexibility without compromising protection.

With an incredible blade cut resistance of 27.8Newton, Cut-Tex® PRO cut resistant fabric is right now as good as it gets. Test reports are of course available upon special request.

Please note, Cut-Tex® PRO cut resistant fabric can only be purchased from UK based PPSS Group, and it can be used to reduce the risk of severe cut injuries, sometimes penetrating main arteries, muscles and tendons.

There is no doubt in my mind that effective health and safety training and the highlighting of operational hazards and risks to the workforce is of great importance. However, the matter of fact is though, that injuries will always occur as long as human being exists. Our focus or concentration can be compromised by a number of variables e.g. personal circumstances, such amount of sleep, health and how much an individual enjoys their job role.

Cut resistant clothing made out of Cut-Tex® PRO is only a safety net… not more… but certainly not less!
